The Quiet Waiting

SCRIPTURE “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” — Matthew 28:6 (NIV)
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Reflection

On the Saturday of Holy Week, the world was silent. The shouting of the crowds was gone. The pain of the Cross was over. Jesus lay in a quiet tomb. For His followers, it was a day of “in-between.” They knew what had happened on Friday, but they did not yet know the joy that was coming on Sunday. It was a day of waiting in the dark.

In our senior years, life can sometimes feel like a “Holy Saturday.” We spend a lot of time waiting. We wait for doctor’s appointments. We wait for the phone to ring. We wait for our bodies to feel better. Sometimes it feels like God is silent, and we wonder if He has forgotten us in the quiet of our rooms.

But Holy Saturday teaches us something very important: God is often doing His greatest work when things are the quietest. Deep in the darkness of that tomb, life was preparing to break through. The silence was not the end of the story; it was the breath before the victory. The stone had not yet moved, but God was already at work.

His Nearness is your Constant

Many parts of life are lived in this “in-between.” We live between prayer and answer, between illness and healing, between loss and comfort. Waiting is not wasted time in God’s kingdom; it is often where faith grows the deepest. Even when you cannot hear His voice or see His hand moving, He is right there in the “waiting room” with you.

Voices of Wisdom

“Faith does not eliminate questions. But faith knows where to take them.” — Elisabeth Elliot

“God is never in a hurry, but He is always on time. Saturday’s silence is just the preparation for Sunday’s song.” — Billy Graham

Rest Reflection

Take a moment to sit in total silence. Don’t try to pray with words. Just sit and breathe. Remind yourself: “I am waiting with God, and God is waiting with me.”

“Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.”

Personal Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being with me in the quiet times. When I feel like my life is just a long season of waiting, remind me that You are working even when I cannot see it. Help me to trust Your timing. Fill my silence with Your peace, and help me look forward to the joy of tomorrow. Amen.

A Blessing for You

May the Lord give you patience in the “in-between” times of your life. May He settle your heart with the quiet assurance that He is still in control. May you wake up tomorrow with a song of victory in your soul.
