Finished and Forgiven

SCRIPTURE “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” — John 19:30 (NIV)

Reflection

On Good Friday, the world seemed to fall into darkness. Jesus hung on a cross, carrying the weight of all our mistakes, our pains, and our fears. In His final moments, He did not cry out in defeat. Instead, He spoke three powerful words: “It is finished.” He wasn’t just saying His life was ending; He was saying His mission was successful. The gap between God and humanity was restored.

As we get older, we often look back on our lives and think about the things we didn’t finish. Maybe there is a letter you never wrote, a hobby you never mastered, or a relationship that still feels broken. We might feel a sense of “unfinished” that weighs on our hearts.

But Good Friday brings us a beautiful rest. Your salvation is not an “unfinished” project. You do not have to work harder, be better, or “earn” your way into God’s heart. Jesus did all the heavy lifting on the Cross. When He said, “It is finished,” He meant that your forgiveness is complete, your future is secure, and your place in His family is permanent.

His Nearness is your Peace

Today, you don’t have to “do” anything for God. You only must “receive” what He has done for you. If you are feeling tired or burdened by your past, let those three words wash over you. The debt is paid. The work is done. You are forgiven. salvation is not something we achieve through our own efforts; it is a gift freely given by God through Jesus Christ.

Voices of Wisdom

“The cross is the victory of love over hate, of light over darkness, and of life over death. It is the proof that God will go to any length to bring you home.” — Billy Graham

“Christ took our place that we might have His peace. He took our sin that we might have His righteousness. It is a finished work!” — Charles Spurgeon

Rest Reflection

Sit quietly and look at your hands. Remind yourself that you don’t have to “grasp” God’s love today. Simply open your palms as a sign that you are receiving His finished work.

“Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”

Personal Prayer

Lord Jesus, I cannot fully understand the love that kept You on that Cross. Thank You for taking my place. Thank You for finishing the work that I could never do on my own. Today, I lay down my worries and my guilt at the foot of Your Cross. Thank You for the gift of being finished and forgiven. Amen.

A Blessing for You

May the peace of the Cross dwell in your heart today. May you find rest in knowing that your salvation is complete. May the Lord quiet every voice of “not enough” in your mind and replace it with the sound of His perfect love.
