The Light of the World

SCRIPTURE “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” — John 12:46 (NIV)

Reflection

On the Tuesday of Holy Week, Jesus spent much of His time teaching in the Temple. He knew that in just a few days, the world would seem to go dark. He knew the Cross was coming. Yet, in the face of that darkness, He stood firm as a Light. He wanted His followers to understand that even when they couldn’t see the way forward, they could see Him.

In our later years, we sometimes face “shadows.” It might be the shadow of a new diagnosis, the dimming of our eyesight, or the “darkness” of losing a spouse or a dear friend. When these shadows creep in, it’s easy to feel like the light is fading from our lives. We might look back at the “sunny” days of our youth and wonder where the brightness went.

But Jesus’ promise on that Tuesday is for us today: His Light does not depend on our circumstances. I remember a story of a woman who kept a small battery-operated candle by her bed. She uttered, “When the night feels long, and I can’t sleep, I look at that little flicker and remind myself that Jesus is the Light that no darkness can put out.”

His Nearness is your Morning Star

You don’t need to see the whole path ahead of you; you only need enough light for the next step. Even if you feel you are in a “sunset” season, remember that with Christ, we aren’t heading into the dark—we are walking toward the brightest day we’ve ever known.

Voices of Wisdom

“There is no cave so deep but that the light of Christ can reach it. There is no darkness so thick but that His presence can pierce it.” — Corrie ten Boom

“If you have Christ in your heart, you have a sun that never sets.” — Charles Spurgeon

Rest Reflection

Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine a warm, golden light filling your room. It touches the corners where worry hides and chases away the shadows of fear. Let that warmth settle over you.

“The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus!”

Personal Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Light. When my life feels shadowy or uncertain, please shine Your truth into my heart. Help me not to be afraid of the dark, because I know You have already overcome it. Open my eyes to see the “small lights” of Your grace all around me today. Amen.

A Blessing for You

May the Lord lift the shadows from your soul today. May His face shine upon you and give you peace. Even in the quiet hours of the night, may you feel the warmth of His Light guiding your every thought.
