The House of Prayer
Reflection
On the Monday of Holy Week, Jesus entered the Temple and found it filled with noise, shouting, and people trying to make money. It had become a place of stress instead of a place of peace. Jesus cleared out the tables and the crowds because He wanted to restore the Temple to its true purpose: a quiet place to talk with God.
Many of the residents I visit live in busy facilities. There are bells ringing, carts rolling down the hallways, and the constant sound of televisions. It can be hard to find a “House of Prayer” when your environment is loud. I remember a gentleman who told me, “Chaplain, I can’t get to a church building anymore, and in the other room is always noisy. I feel like I’ve lost my connection to God.”
I reminded him that you are now the Temple. Because the Holy Spirit lives in you, your heart is the “House of Prayer.” You don’t need a cathedral or a quiet garden to talk to Him. You can “clear the tables” of your mind by simply closing your eyes for a moment and inviting Jesus into the center of your thoughts.
His Nearness is your Sanctuary
Even in a noisy dining room or a busy doctor’s office, you carry a quiet room inside of you where you and Jesus can meet. Today, don’t worry about finding a perfect place to pray. Just offer Him the “house” of your heart, and let Him clear away the noise of worry and stress.
Rest Reflection
If there is noise around you right now, try to listen past it. Imagine a small, quiet candle burning inside your heart. That light is God’s presence. Focus on that light for a few seconds.
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.”

Personal Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for making my heart Your home. When the world around me feels loud and distracting, please help me find the quiet place inside where You are waiting. Clear away my busy thoughts and my heavy worries. Help me to remember that I can talk to You anywhere, at any time. Amen.
A Blessing for You
May the Lord grant you a “quiet heart” today. May He settle your spirit and give you the grace to hear His whisper, even in the middle of a busy day. May you find rest in the sanctuary of His love.
