An older woman sits in her room in the late morning, a cup of tea cooling beside her. Something undefined has been with her all morning — not pain exactly, not fear exactly, but a soft, unnamed weight. She has tried to pray about it. She has turned it over. And she still does not quite know what it is. But she knows this: she does not have to understand it for God to understand it. She says quietly, like a small act of faith: “I don’t always understand my feelings. But I’m grateful God does.” And something loosens.

His Unshakeable Hope, Hold Unto It
An older woman on a gray afternoon says quietly to herself: “Hope isn’t a feeling you wait to have. It’s something you choose to hold onto — even when you don’t feel it.” Something loosens in her chest. She says it again, more quietly: “And the beautiful thing is, when I hold onto hope, I realize that God has been holding onto me all along.” The anchor was set before the storm arrived.
You’ll Never Walk Alone With His Steady Hand
Walking back from midweek chapel toward the Terraces, a woman took my arm without a word. After a while she said quietly: “Chaplain, I don’t walk as straight as I used to. But when someone holds my hand — or my arm — I feel safe.” I said: “God holds your hand the same way. Steady, patient, and strong. All the way down every corridor.”
