Day 17

Surrending and Finding Strength

SCRIPTURE “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.” — Psalm 28:7

Reflection

As the seasons of life change, we often feel like we are losing control over things we once managed with ease. Our daily schedules, our health, our routines, and even our independence can feel like they are slipping through our fingers.

For many, this creates a quiet tension: we want to be in control, yet we feel a desperate need for a strength we no longer possess. I will never forget sitting with a man who looked down at his hands—hands that had worked hard for many decades. He said quietly, “I used to be the strong one. Now I need help just getting out of bed.”

After a long pause, I offered a gentle thought: “Maybe strength looks different now. Maybe, in this season, strength is letting others care for you, and letting God carry what you cannot.” He nodding slowly, realized a profound truth: surrender is not a sign of weakness; it is a higher form of strength.

His Nearness is your Shield. God never asked you to control everything. He only asked you to trust Him with everything. When we stop striving to manage every “what-if,” we begin to receive the peace that only He can provide.

  • You do not have to hide your fears from God.
  • You do not have to pretend you are feeling strong when you are tired.
  • You can be completely honest with the One who already knows your heart.

Rest Reflection

Think of one specific thing today that is making you feel “out of control.” Hold your hands tightly closed for a few seconds, then slowly open them wide. As you open your palms, say quietly: “Lord, I give this to You.”

“All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.”

Personal Prayer

Lord, please help me to release the things I cannot control. I am tired of trying to hold everything together on my own. Be my strength today, be my shield against worry, and be my steady foundation. Teach my heart that surrendering to You is not a failure—it is the beginning of Your wisdom in me. Amen.

A Blessing for You

May the Lord’s strength uphold you today. May His perfect peace replace your heavy worries, and may His presence carry the burdens that your shoulders were never meant to bear alone.
