“Honoring the Past, Guiding the Present, Inspiring the Future—in Christ.” From A Chaplain's Heart.

When we feel tired, empty, or sad, God is near. He welcomes us hungry and broken, and His love never runs dry.

Sometimes in life, we feel very empty. Our hearts ache. Our strength is gone. The weight of life feels too heavy. In those moments, we long for healing and love that does not end.

I was reminded of this when I listened to Kathryn Scott’s song “Hungry (Falling On My Knees).” The song is simple and honest. It feels like a prayer many of us want to say:

“Hungry, I come to You
For I know You satisfy
I am empty, but I know
Your love does not run dry.”

Story

One day, I saw a woman sitting on a park bench near the campus where I serve. Her eyes were red. She had been crying. As I walked past, I felt the pain she carried. I did not know what words to say, but I had a small packet of tissues. I gave it to her. She looked up and said, “Thank you.”

In that small moment, I saw what this song means. We all come to God empty, tired, and broken. Sometimes we do not even know how to pray. But Jesus meets us in our weakness. His arms are open. His touch brings healing. His love never ends.

Living With Open Hands

The song also says:

“Jesus, You’re all this heart is living for.”

These words are more than just lyrics. They remind us of the truth that only Jesus can fill our hearts. Being hungry or broken does not mean we have failed. It means we need Him.

Jesus said:

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” — Matthew 5:6

If you are hungry, tired, or hurting today, bring it all to Him. Fall on your knees. Wait in His presence. Let Him restore your soul.

A Scripture to Hold Onto

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come to You hungry and broken.
I feel empty and weak. I long for more of You.
Thank You that Your love never runs dry.
Please restore me and give me strength.
I give You my whole heart.
Amen.
