Starting Your Own Testimony: Record God’s Faithfulness Now

Inspiring the Future | For Generations 20s–40s

The seniors we admire today have decades of “God-stories.” But they didn’t start with decades—they started with one day, one prayer, and one record of God’s help.

Your testimony is being written right now. The question is: Are you recording it?

Why Your Testimony Matters
  1. Your future self will need it. When you face a crisis at 50, you will need to remember how God helped you at 30. When doubt attacks at 60, your records from your 40s will be the evidence that God is real.
  2. Your children need your stories. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us to teach God’s words diligently to our children. But you cannot teach what you have forgotten. What you don’t record, you cannot pass on.
  3. Remembering is a choice. Psalm 77:11 says, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord.” Remembering isn’t automatic; it is a spiritual discipline. Life moves fast, and details blur. If you don’t write it down, you will forget.
What Should You Record?

Don’t wait for a “parting of the Red Sea” miracle. Record the everyday evidence:

  • Answered Prayers: “Asked for help with the mortgage; received an unexpected check on [Date].”
  • Small Provisions: A friend bringing groceries, or a bill that was lower than expected.
  • Unexpected Moments: A conversation that changed your perspective, or a Bible verse that felt written just for you.
  • Hard Seasons: Not just that you survived, but how God gave you peace in the middle of the pain.
  • Lessons Learned: “Through this situation, God taught me that He is my true Provider.”
How to Start (Keep it Simple)

The best system is the one you will actually use. Don’t overcomplicate it:

  • Phone Notes: Create a folder called “God’s Faithfulness.” Type a quick note whenever something happens.
  • Voice Memos: Talk it out. Date-stamp it and save it.
  • The “Two-Column” Journal: On the left page, write your request. On the right page, write the answer and the date.
  • Annual Review: Every December, write down the top 5 things God did that year.

Building Your “History with God”

Each entry is a “stone of remembrance.” In 1 Samuel 7:12, Samuel set up a stone and called it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

By writing these things down, you are creating an Ebenezer for your life. You are becoming an elder with stories. Fifty years from now, your grandchildren won’t just hear that God is “good” in theory—they will read your journals and see that He was good in your actual life.

The Regret of the Unrecorded

One senior said, “I remember God was faithful, but I’ve forgotten the details. I wish I had written it down so I could tell my grandkids the specifics.”

Don’t let that be your story.

Today’s Assignment:

  1. Write one thing: Write down one way God has been faithful to you this month. Just one.
  2. Date it: Dates turn a story into a historical record.
  3. Commit: Decide today that your history with God is too valuable to lose.

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”Revelation 12:11

Your testimony has power—but only if you remember it. Start your record today.
