Understanding Grief

Grief and pain are very personal. What helps one person may not help another. A friend may feel better when surrounded by people, while you may feel peace when you are alone and quiet. That is why it is important to discover what truly gives you comfort—and to make space for it in your life.

A Story of Comfort

I once met a man in a hospital while doing my visitation. He always carried his small Bible. He told me, “When the nights feel heavy, I open the Psalms and read until my tears become prayers.” Sometimes he read only one verse, and that was enough. He said the words felt like drops of water falling on dry ground, slowly softening his heart.

For him, comfort was not about people filling the silence, but about God’s Word filling her soul.

Healthy Practices for Healing

🎵 Listen to Music
Music can touch the heart when words are not enough. A gentle song or meaningful lyrics can bring peace.

🌳 Spend Time Outdoors
Nature can heal gently. Fresh air, a walk, or simply sitting outside can renew your body and calm your spirit.

✍️ Write in a Journal
Writing helps you release your thoughts and feelings. It can bring clarity when you cannot say the words aloud.

📖 Read the Psalms
The Psalms show honesty and deep emotion. They remind us we can speak to God with our struggles, fears, and hopes.

🙏 Go to God
The Bible says God is our refuge and fortress. He is our safe place, giving strength and peace in life’s storms.

A Truth to Remember

Comfort is not always found in big things. Often, it is in the small, simple choices we make each day. These practices can help you take steps toward healing, little by little.

Scripture to Hold Onto

“The Father of compassion… comforts us in all our troubles.” — 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

🙏 Prayer

Loving God, You are close to the brokenhearted. Thank You for the simple gifts You give—music, nature, words, and Your presence. Teach us to bring our tears and pain to You, and turn them into prayers of trust. Walk with us each day and give us peace for the journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
