His Strength

The Strongest Thing I Have Ever Seen

Scripture
“The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” — Psalm 27:1
Reflection

Strength looks different as we age.

When we are young, strength is easy to see. It is in the speed of our steps, the steadiness of our hands, the ability to carry heavy things without stopping to rest. It announces itself. It is easy to be proud of.

But there is another kind of strength — quieter, deeper, and far more rare. It does not announce itself. It does not ask to be noticed. It simply shows up, day after day, and does what love requires.

I saw it on one of my prayer walks.

I do my prayer walking around the community — floor by floor, corridor by corridor — praying for the residents and staff as I go. It is one of the parts of my day I treasure most. And on one of those walks, I paused at a doorway and saw something I have not forgotten.

Inside the room, a gentleman I will call Edward was sitting beside his wife’s bed. She was not well. She needed more help now than she once did, and the care she required had become the shape of his days. He was doing something small — adjusting her blanket, refilling her water — one of the ten thousand quiet tasks that make up a life of devotion. He did not know I was watching. He was not performing.

He was just there. Fully, quietly, completely there.

There was no frustration in his face. No weariness that had turned into bitterness. Just a man who had decided, a long time ago, that this was where he belonged — beside her — and who had not changed his mind through any of the hard years that followed.

I stood at that doorway for a long moment. And I thought: that is what strength looks like. Not the strength of a young man carrying heavy things. The strength of an old man carrying something heavier — and doing it with grace.

That is the strength Paul was pointing to when he wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. Not despite weakness — through it. The strength that Edward carried in that room was not his own. A man cannot sustain that kind of love on his own. That kind of staying, that kind of gentleness after so many hard years — that comes from somewhere else. It comes from the Lord, who is the strength of our lives.

His Nearness is our Strength. God’s strength is not loud or forceful. It is steady, quiet, and always available. It holds us when we feel weak. It carries us when we feel tired. It lifts us when we feel overwhelmed. And it works most powerfully not in the moments when we feel strong, but in the moments when we know — clearly, honestly — that we cannot do this alone.

If you are tired today, that is not a failure. It is an invitation. An invitation to lean — not on your own strength, which is real but limited — but on the strength of the One who does not grow tired, who does not faint, who renews the strength of those who wait on Him.

You have carried a great deal in your life. More, perhaps, than you have ever been given credit for. And the strength that carried you through all of it was not entirely your own. It was His — working through you, in you, for you — steady and quiet and faithful, every single day. That strength has not left. It is here now. And it will be here tomorrow, and in every day that follows, for as long as you need it.

A Voice of Wisdom
“God never calls us to a task without giving us the strength to complete it. He does not hand us a burden and walk away. He carries it with us — every step, every day, to the very end.”
— A.W. Tozer, Pastor and Author
The Legacy Connection
  • Think of one thing you are carrying right now that feels too heavy. Name it honestly before God today. Then say out loud: “Lord, You are the strength of my life. I cannot carry this alone — but You can carry it with me.” That is not weakness. That is wisdom.
  • For the Next Generation: Look at the older people in your life — the ones who are still showing up, still loving, still going. Ask them: “Where does your strength come from?” Their answer will be one of the most important things you ever hear. Strength that lasts a lifetime always has a source beyond the person carrying it.
✦ A Heartfelt Word — To You, the Reader ✦

You have walked forty days with us. Forty days of reflection, prayer, and the quiet, faithful reminder that God is near — in His joy, His love, His presence, His mercy, His compassion, His faithfulness, His hope, and now, His strength.

You are not alone. You have never been alone. And whatever lies ahead — in the days, the months, the years still to come — the God who has been with you through all forty of these days will be with you through every one that follows.

“He is the strength of your life. Of whom shall you be afraid?”
Rest Reflection

Sit quietly. Think of the hardest thing you have ever carried. Now think of the fact that you are still here — still breathing, still reading, still trusting. That is not your strength alone. That is His.

You made it this far because He carried you. He will carry you the rest of the way.

Let one of these songs close this journey well:

Personal Prayer
Lord, You are the strength of my life. On the days when I feel weak — and there are many — remind me that Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Thank You for every day You have carried me without my knowing it. Thank You for Edward, and for every quiet act of faithful love I have witnessed. Thank You for forty days of Your nearness. And Lord — do not stop now. Stay close. Keep carrying me. Keep strengthening me. All the way to the end, and into what comes after. Amen.
A Blessing for You — The Final One
Spoken over you today — and always
May the strength of God uphold you today
and in every day to come.

May it steady your steps when the road is hard.
May it calm your heart when fear comes close.
May it carry you through every season still ahead —
gently, faithfully, completely.

And may you know, deep in the place
where you are most tired and most honest,
that the Lord — your Lord —
is the strength of your life.

He always has been.
He always will be.

Now go — held, loved, and strong in Him. 🌿
