Renewal

Fresh Strength for the Long Walk

Strength is not the absence of fatigue, but the presence of a Sustainer who meets us exactly where we are.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

“Wings Like Eagles”

Renewal is not just for the young—it is for every soul that turns toward God. In life, we often feel a weight of fatigue that isn’t just in our bodies, but in our spirits, too. We look at the “wings like eagles” and think, “Chaplain, I can barely walk down the hall, let alone soar.” We might feel that the best days of our strength are behind us.

But I remember a woman in our community who taught me the secret. She smiled and said, “Noel, every morning I ask God for just enough strength for today—and somehow, He always gives it.” She wasn’t looking for the strength she had at twenty; she was looking for daily renewal. She understood that God’s strength isn’t a large tank of fuel we get once a month; it is a fresh stream that flows into us every single morning.

A Lesson for All of Us

His Nearness is your Refreshment. When we stop striving to be who we “used to be” and start trusting who God is now, we find that His nearness is our daily sustenance. This is a vital lesson for the younger people in our lives who are often exhausted by the “hustle” of the world. By watching us rely on God for our daily strength, they learn that life is not a sprint to be won, but a walk to be shared with the Creator.

The Legacy Connection

For the Senior: Tell a younger family member: “I may not be as fast as I once was, but I’ve learned that God’s strength is enough for every single day.”

For the Next Generation: If you feel “burned out,” look at the elders in your life. Ask how they’ve managed to keep their faith fresh through decades of change.

Rest Reflection

Sit quietly for a moment. Instead of thinking about what you can’t do today, think about one thing God is doing right now.

Personal Prayer

Lord, renew my strength today. Refresh my spirit, restore my peace, and fill my heart with hope. When I feel weary, remind me that Your grace is new every single morning. Amen.
