“Honoring the Past, Guiding the Present, Inspiring the Future—in Christ.” From A Chaplain's Heart.

Boldly Following God’s Lead
The Fourth Step: Courage

Nugget of Wisdom
Faith grows into courage. Every small step, every patient pause, and every act of trust culminate in a boldness that can move hearts and lives for God’s glory.

Scripture Reflection

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

Courage is not the absence of fear—it is action in the face of fear, knowing God goes before us. Our faithful steps give us the foundation to walk boldly.

Chaplain’s Whisper
By the fourth step, faith is no longer tentative—it is confident. Courage doesn’t ignore uncertainty, but it leans fully on God’s presence and promises. Each previous step—beginning, trusting, waiting—prepares us to take brave leaps for His kingdom.

Anecdote
A senior chaplain once told a young caregiver about his early days in ministry—how his hands trembled as he held the Bible, and how his prayers felt uncertain, yet still reached God’s heart. “I didn’t feel brave,” he admitted, “I just kept walking with God.”

That quiet honesty planted courage. The young listener, encouraged by that simple faith, stepped into his calling with boldness. And just like the elder before him, he began to see lives changed—not because he had all the answers, but because he trusted in God’s steady presence.

Wisdom Prompt
What is one bold action God is inviting you to take today, even if it feels risky? How can your previous steps of faith give you the courage to move forward?

Prayer
God of strength,
Fill me with courage to follow where You lead.
Help me move forward boldly, trusting Your presence and power.
Let my life reflect the faithfulness of steps taken in trust, patience, and obedience.
Amen.
