Faith in Small Beginnings

The First Step Is Enough.

Nugget of Wisdom
Every great journey begins with something small. The seed of growth is already in the first faithful step, even when the full path ahead is unclear.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”– Zechariah 4:10

God delights in beginnings that seem too small to notice. What feels like a trembling start to us is, in His eyes, an act of deep trust. The moment we step forward in obedience—no matter how uncertain—He meets us there with strength and grace.

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step,” said Dr. Martin Luther King.

Chaplain’s Whisper
Yes, you and I don’t need to see the whole staircase to take the first step. Every great story of faith begins with small steps that whisper, “Here I am, Lord,”—even when we don’t know where the path will lead. God writes the rest as we walk.

Anecdote
A widowed grandfather longed to record his memories for his grandchildren, but didn’t know where to start. One gentle suggestion was simple: “Start with one sentence today.”
A week later, three full pages had been filled—stories flowing freely once the first small step was taken. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

Wisdom Prompt
What’s one small act of faith you can take today—something that might feel too small to matter, yet could open the door to something beautiful?

Prayer Moment
God of New Beginnings,
I come to You with my heart, though my steps are shaky.
Please give me courage and help me trust You more.
Let every small beginning reveal Your faithfulness.
Amen.
