The Joy of Looking Toward Home

SCRIPTURE “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” — Revelation 21:4

Reflection

Every long journey has a destination. Whether it was a vacation with family or a long day of work, there is a special kind of peace that comes when you finally turn onto your own street and see the lights in the window. You know that soon, you will be able to take off your shoes, sit in your favorite chair, and be at rest.

As believers, we are all travelers. Our time here—with all its beauty and its struggles—is a preparation for our true Home. For the senior saint, looking toward Home is not an act of sadness; it is an act of anticipation. It is the joy of knowing that the God who has been “near” to us in spirit for eighty or ninety years is the same God we will soon see face-to-face.

I often think of the “old order of things” mentioned in Revelation. It means:

  • No more tired joints or failing eyesight.
  • No more lonely evenings or quiet rooms.
  • No more saying goodbye to those we love.

His Nearness is your Destination. Heaven is not just a place of golden streets; it is the place where God’s presence is complete. Everything we have practiced over these thirty days—the quiet praise, the gentle spirit, the faithful obedience—has been a “rehearsal” for Heaven. We are simply getting our hearts ready for the place where we truly belong.

Today, lift your eyes. The shore is in sight. You are loved, you are kept, and you are almost Home.

A Voice of Wisdom.
“Our Father’s house is a mansion where there is room for all his children. It is a place of rest, a place of safety, a place of holiness, and a place of joy.” — Charles Spurgeon

Rest Reflection

Take a moment to imagine a place where there is no more pain and no more sorrow. Think of the loved ones who have gone before you and the Savior who is waiting for you. Let that joy fill your heart today. As you rest in this ultimate hope, you might want to sing:

“When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!”

Personal Prayer

Lord, thank You for the 30 days we have spent together. Thank You for being near to me in every season of my life. Keep my heart focused on the joy of my true Home. Help me to live each day in the light of eternity, knowing that the best is yet to come. I love You, Lord. Amen.

A Blessing for You

May the peace of the Lord follow you all the days of your life. May the hope of Heaven be your constant comfort, and may the reality of His Nearness sustain you until the moment you step into His arms.
