A Future and a Hope
Reflection
As we get older, we often think about the future with quiet curiosity. Life has shifted. Our daily routines are different now, and the horizon looks different than it did forty or fifty years ago. Yet, God’s promise remains unshakable: He has plans for you, He offers you hope, and He is still writing your story.
One afternoon, I asked a woman in her late eighties what she hoped for in the days ahead. She smiled softly and said, “Chaplain, I just want to know God is still leading me. I want to know my life still has meaning.” Her words showed a beautiful, humble faith. She trusted that God’s purposes for a human soul do not “expire” just because the body slows down.
His Nearness means your life has a Purpose. Hope does not have an age limit. God’s plans for you do not get smaller as you grow older; they simply become more focused on the eternal. Even in this season, He continues to guide you, shape you, and use you.
Perhaps your “work” looks different now—it may be quieter, slower, or involve more prayer than activity—but it is just as important to God as it ever was. Having a “future and a hope” means God is not finished with you yet. There are still prayers for you to pray, people for you to bless with a kind word, and a deep wisdom for you to share. Because He is near, your future is safe in His hands.
A Voice of Wisdom.
“God has a reason for keeping you here, and He still has a work for you to do.” — Billy Graham
Rest Reflection
Think of one person—a grandchild, a neighbor, or a caregiver—who needs God’s touch. By praying for them today, you are participating in God’s “future and hope” for their life. As you hold them in prayer, you might want to hum:
Because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living, just because He lives.”
Personal Prayer
Lord, thank You for holding my future in Your strong and capable hands. Fill me with a fresh hope today and guide my steps. Remind me that Your plans for me are still good, still meaningful, and still unfolding. Thank You for staying so near to me. Amen.
A Blessing for You
May the God of hope fill your heart today. May He guide your future with His wisdom and surround your days with His perfect peace. May you always remember that your life, your stories, and your prayers matter deeply to Him.
