Rest and Praise
Reflection
Rest is much more than just sleep—it is the quiet settling of the soul. As we age, we often long for a rest that goes deeper than the body. We look for rest from worry, rest from old regrets, and rest from the weight of the many years we have carried. Scripture reminds us that this kind of true, deep rest is found in one place: God’s presence.
I once read a story of a woman who was asked what brought her peace during long, difficult nights. She smiled and said, “When I cannot sleep, I do not count sheep. I start thanking God for every blessing I can remember. Before long, my heart is at rest, even if my body is still awake.”
Her praise became her pathway to rest.
His Nearness is your Rest. Rest and praise are best friends. When we begin to praise God, our focus shifts. We stop looking at our heavy burdens and start looking at His great goodness. Praise does not mean we ignore our struggles; it means we invite God into the middle of them.
Rest does not always mean staying still—it means trusting. It is the act of leaning your whole weight on the Lord and believing that He is in control. When you rest in Him, your heart finds the room it needs to breathe again. Even a tiny “thank you” whispered in a quiet room can change the atmosphere of your day.
Rest Reflection
If you find yourself awake tonight or feeling restless today, try the “Blessing List.” Name five things—small or large—that you are thankful for. As you name them, let this spiritual song be the prayer of your heart:
I will enter His courts with praise;
I will say this is the day that the Lord has made,
I will rejoice for He has made me glad.”
Personal Prayer
Lord, please give rest to my heart today. When my mind is busy with worry, help me to start counting my blessings instead. Let praise rise within me and draw me deeper into Your perfect peace. Thank You for promising to go with me everywhere I go. Amen.
A Blessing for You
May the rest of God settle over your spirit today like a warm blanket. May praise fill the quiet spaces of your heart, and may His constant presence renew your strength for the journey ahead.
