A Living Purpose
Reflection
Purpose does not fade with age; it simply transforms into something more beautiful. Sometimes, as the world moves faster, we might feel like we are “just taking up space.” But when I look at the seniors in our community serving alongside senior adult volunteers, I do not see people “taking up space.” I see God’s workmanship in action.
I see purpose alive and well every single week. I see it when:
- The Piano Plays: A senior lady volunteer sits at the keys, and suddenly the room is filled with the peace of an old hymn.
- Voices Rise in Song: Seniors lead us in worship, proving that a heart that loves God never loses its song.
- The Word is Shared: A resident opens the Bible with a senior volunteer to read passages as everyone listens.
- A Door is Opened: Senior ushers stand at the Sunday Service with warm smiles, making every person feel they belong in God’s house.
- A Hand is Held: A volunteer who is an older adult spends time with a person living in long-term care, providing invaluable gifts—ensuring they are listened to and remembered.
His Nearness is seen in your service. These are not just “jobs” or “hobbies.” These are the “good works” that God prepared specifically for you to do in this season. Your years of experience have shaped you into a unique vessel of grace. You understand endurance, you know the power of prayer, and you carry a light that younger generations desperately need to see.
Your purpose continues today. It shines through your music, your prayers, your visits, and your smiles. God is still working through you to touch the lives of everyone around you.
Rest Reflection
Take a moment to think of the “good works” you have been part of this week—the music you played, the prayers you shared, or the warm welcome you gave at the door. How did you feel God’s pleasure in those moments?
To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.”
Personal Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of purpose. Whether I am playing an instrument, reading Your Word, or simply offering a kind welcome, let Your love flow through me. Remind me that I am Your handiwork, and that You still have beautiful things for me to do today. Amen.
A Blessing for You
May the Lord renew your strength as you serve Him. May He bless the hands that play, the voices that sing, and the hearts that visit. May you always know that your presence is a gift to this community and to Him.
